Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley promotes disaster preparedness planning
Temecula, CA – Fires are raging and the thought of a potential big quake always lingers for Californians. September is National Preparedness month and being prepared for an emergency is critical. Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley (Habitat) is supporting the local community in an aim to “Be Ready.” In partnership with the Ready.gov LISTOS California campaign and the Inland Empire Community Foundation, Habitat will be hosting four disaster preparedness planning awareness Be Ready shopping days. Shopping days will take place at Habitat’s local stores in Temecula. Shoppers will have the opportunity to pick up a free LISTOS Disaster Ready Guide, as well as other disaster ready kit items.
“As an organization that emphasizes a focus on shelter in our core principles, we want to make sure that where our local families shelter is a safe place. The reality is that living in Southern California, our communities are at risk for earthquakes and fires, but we can be ready,” shared Tammy Marine, Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley Executive Director. “National Preparedness month is an opportunity to engage with our community about planning for disasters. Habitat’s partnership with LISTOS and the Inland Empire Community Foundation encourages family discussions on being prepared, as well as promotes planning and action to be ready should a disaster happen.”
Preparing for a disaster can be simple and in times of crisis, being as ready as possible can save time and lives. Making a plan, building a kit and staying informed can all help families stay safe if and when a disaster hits. To download a LISTOS Disaster Ready Guide from home visit habitativ.org/listos.
