On June 16, 2022, Tammy Marine, Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley CEO completed a four year term as Chair of the Board of Governance (BOG) for the Continuum of Care (COC) for the County of Riverside. The BOG is the body that administers the funding that is received from the state and federal government for homelessness.
“It has been an honor to serve as the Chair for these past years. Homelessness is only an arm’s length away from our programming at Habitat. Many of our applicants come to us straight from subsidized rental programs and Habitat is a back door out of that system. It was a natural fit to contribute to solving homelessness and I leave with pride over the many accomplishments of the collective energy of so many devoted professionals during my tenure as BOG Chair,” shared Tammy Marine, Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley CEO.
Here are a few accomplishments the BOG made in the last 4 years:
Established better policies and procedures Initiated a monthly resource report
Tripled funding Stimulated better regionally collaboration
Completed a Gaps Analysis/Needs Assessment Contributed to the 5 Yr Homeless Action Plan
And most important: significantly lowered the number of unsheltered homeless in the county for the first time in years.
“The homeless crisis is so much more than it seems. A homeless individual is a walking story that may include barriers like unemployment, untreated health issues, abuse, bad luck, bad choices, addiction and so much more. It is my opinion that no human being intentionally sets out to fail. The work provided through the COC providers helps overcome those barriers while providing hope! It has been an honor to support our homeless population in this tiny way and it has reiterated to me the importance of our work and the meaning of “home,” added Tammy Marine, Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley CEO.
